Matty got his first kart in September 2009 . A shark comer w 60 , he started testing At warden law in Sunderland and quickly got the hang of it . Anton from warden law was a massive help to us , keeping me right and helping Matty when he could . His first race was a wet race in February 2010 wheree finished 8th from 18 entrants ! The rest of this year we raced at teeside , rowrah and warden law passing his arks at rowrah and winning his first msa novice race there !
2011
We built another shark kart for this season with a new shark Motorsport engine and joined HTR racing a local team run by Derrick Hardy and driver coaching with Paul Hardy. We decided to do the warden law championship which was a mix of comer w60 and honda karts .
Pole positions and many fastest laps along the way saw us finish 3rd in what was a great championship year smashing the long standing lap record with a 59.28 lap was a bonus too !
2012
It was time for a brand new kart ! Matty tested a Wright kart and a zip but decided he wanted The new shark attack kart! The deal was done for a new kart and new shark team race suit just in time for a surprise Xmas present ! Boxing Day was spent testing at warden law and the pace we found was just amazing .Steve from shark built us an awesome comer engine and We entered the Nkf championship and rowrah championships this year and had a great year battling with jonny Edgar at rowrah , we led this series for most of the year before having back to back carb failures which probably cost us the win but we were still very happy to be 2nd overall , the Nkf series was great and after a bad last round we finished a credible 4th place overall
2013
Super one !
Matty had the choice to do super one comer or move to minimax. He decided to compete in super one comer which was a big step up, racing the best in the country. Another super one comer engine was purchased and another top carburettor sourced by Wayne at choice engines. We again ran with HTR racing and shark Motorsport who looked after our engines. We had a great year overall with some impressive results against the top teams, especially in the wet. To end the the year, qualifying on p4 at shennington was outstanding and finishing in 10th in the final after being took off in the pre-final down to last place. Overall finishing 12th in the super one series was great but could have been improved with a few better final results following outstanding pre-final results.
2014
Onto mini max and a new team !
Matty was asked to join the newly formed persistence Motorsport team
New year, new kart, new team. Straight into minimax and straight on the pace ,The new team boss Darren brown had Matty going very well the first day in the kart! We decided to race in the NKF championship and took the lead from round 1 A little bit bad luck starting mid season prevented the Nkf win so 2nd place it was! We also did the rowrah championship and were very fast all year in the wet, we struggled a bit with our race engine in the dry but secured the championship win easily in the end!
2015
A move up to junior max this year, still with the fast growing persistence team, we decided to do the NKF championship and again took the lead after round 1, unfortunately we were crashed into in round 2 but still led the championship , in round 3 we had a wiring plug come loose and dropped to 2nd, 2 more round wins and 4 very consistent rounds took the championship down to the wire at the last round with matty and only 1 other driver able to win the title, the last round was a wild one but matty had won the championship before starting the final race !
